CORE is funded jointly by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and International Engineering Technology Foundation.

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation
The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation was established in 1966 by William R. Hewlett, his wife, Flora Lamson Hewlett, and their eldest son, Walter B. Hewlett. “Never stifle a generous impulse,” was a favorite saying of entrepreneur William R. Hewlett. It is the personal generosity of Mr. Hewlett, that has made the Hewlett Foundation one of the nation’s largest, with assets of more than $9 billion.
The Foundation concentrates its resources on activities in education, environment, global development, performing arts, and population. In addition, the Foundation has programs that make grants to advance the field of philanthropy, and to support disadvantaged communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. In recent years, the Foundation supported Open Education Resources Projects all over the world, including OCW Project of CORE.

International Engineering Technology Foundation
International Engineering Technology Foundation (IETF) was established in 1993 by Dr. Fun-Den Wang and his wife Dr. Agnes Chia Wang in the state of Colorado, USA. Its endowment comes from International Engineering Technology, Inc. (IET, Inc.), which was established in 1978.
Its initial purpose was to encourage young people in China in the disciplines of engineering and science, particularly in the fields of natural resources, energy, transportation, materials, and the environment. As the endowment has grown, IET Foundation has eliminated restrictions in the fields of interest and has expanded its vision to ultimately awarding scholarships worldwide. As an affiliate of IET Foundation, IET Educational Foundation was established in 1994 in Beijing. In more than ten years since its establishment, it has supported 29 research projects, 90 young professors, 3,000 graduate and undergraduate students from 26 universities. In 2003, Dr. Wang was elected as Chinaman of CORE. In 2004, IET Educational Foundation set up “President Award” to show respect to and encourage university administrators who have made outstanding efforts for Chinese university construction.
