Mr. Nagatani, the General Manager of the 1st Project Promotion Division of International Information Technology Laboratory in Japan was introduced to Beijing Jiaotong University by the Higher Education Division and the Science and Technology Division of Ministry of Education of China (MOE). Mr. Nagatani was accompanied in Beijing by CICC (Center of the International Cooperation for Computerization) representatives to visit Beijing Jiaotong University on Nov.16, 2004. The aim of their trip was to learn about e-learning in China. Prof. Chen Geng, President of the School of Distance and Continuing Education, introduced his school, educational technology, the development process, and the present and the future plans for distance education, including e-learning at Beijing Jiaotong University. He also gave the Japanese guests a tour of the facilities of the School of Distance and Continuing Education of Beijing Jiaotong University.

While in Japan, Mr. Nagatani heard that one organization in China has been promoting MIT OCW (Massachusetts Institute of Technology Open CourseWare) among Chinese Universities. Therefore, on this trip he specifically requested to meet with representatives from this organization, China Open Resource for Education (CORE). CORE representatives, Prof. Meiqi Huang and Prof. Meifeng Liu met Mr. Nagatani and his colleagues. They introduced CORE and its development; then they described in more detail the translation and utilization of MIT OCW in China. Mr. Ganatani showed great interested in CORE and also provided information regarding the open sharing of educational resources in Japanese Universities. Both sides exchanged their ideas on common questions and future cooperation. They both hope that they will keep in touch and find opportunities for further cooperation in the future.
