| 2005-02-17 |
| |
CORE Chairman, Dr. Wang Fun-Den met with staff of MIT OCW and several other U.S. Universities on February 17. The main theme of this meeting was how to accelerate the opencourseware movement. At the meeting, they agreed to work together on an informal basis. Through representatives'discussions and brainstorms during several sessions, they reached the conclusion that they should immediately form working groups around the topics of recruitment, communications, pilots, evaluation, and technology and technical standards. On the basis of their conclusions, they worked out a proposed action plan. CORE will take a lead in the priority to recruit as many of the targeted institutions as possible to develop new pilot sites. MIT OCW set the time and the place for next meeting, which is scheduled to be at the end of September 2005 at Utah State University.
This meeting was attended by the representatives from Johns Hopkins, Tufts, University of Michigan, Utah State, Harvard Law School Berkman Center, Notre Dame, Universia, CORE (China Open Resources for Education), and the Hewlett Foundation and the Mellon Foundation. Additionally, MIT Professor Shigeru Miyagawa spoke on behalf of a group of leading Japanese universities who are developing OCWs. |
