1. MIT OCW Translation
For the convenience of Chinese readers, 10 CORE Lead Universities organized professors and experts from different majors to become involved in the translation of MIT OCW. Meanwhile, volunteers from various majors and with diverse backgrounds have also been absorbed in participating in the translation work. By Dec, 29, 2005, 109 courses of MIT OCW have been finished, which are already published on CORE¡¯s website.
CORE¡¯s website has been linked to homepage of MIT OCW, and the Chinese version of MIT OCW can now be directly read on MIT OCW website.
2. Use of MIT OCW in Teaching
In July, 2005, CORE formally initiated the program of using MIT OCW in teaching for CORE Lead Universities. The first phase of the program began in July, 2005 and will come to its end in June 2006.
To date, there are 170 courses MIT OCW being adapted, adopted or absorbed in teaching. 90 MIT OCW have been incorporated in the teaching resources repository of CRTVU. 150 professors from 10 CORE Lead Universities have become involved in the use of MIT OCW. The use and comparative study of 40 MIT OCW with the Chinese counterparts have been completed. The additional 60 comparative studies will be completed by the end of June, 2006, as scheduled.
3. Creation of CQOCW in English
To share Chinese Quality OCW (CQOCW) globally, in Dec, 2005, CORE has initiated a program of writing CQOCW in the English version. In accordance to the schedule, CORE will select 10 CQOCW from CORE Lead Universities and Member Universities, translating and writing them into English version. At the same time, CORE has linked 451 CQOCW, which were developed in the years of 2003 and 2004, to the CORE website. Among these 451 courses, 176 were developed by CORE Lead Universities and Member Universities.
4. Improving CORE Website
In 2005, the CORE website has continued to improve. The content is being constantly enriched, making the CORE website enjoy a daily visit count of over 10,000 compared to the 3,000 at the beginning of the year.
At present, the CORE website has published all English versions of MIT OCW, some of Chinese versions of MIT OCW, OCW of some elite universities outside of China, CQOCW, news and information of Open Education, academic seminars, etc.
CORE has built a mirror site of MIT OCW, and assisted 5 Lead Universities in setting up mirror sites of MIT OCW.
5. Attendance of International Conferences
In 2005, CORE chairman and staff participated in 5 large-scaled and professional Open Education conferences, hosted some of them and delivered presentations which were well received. Here is a list of the conferences:

6. Organization of Academic Seminars
In 2005, CORE organized 6 Open Education seminars in collaboration with MIT, USU, and some universities in China.
In March and April, representatives from MIT and CORE discussed topics of Open Education with professors and students respectively in Xian Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Beijing University of Technology and Hongkong University of Science & Technology. In November, delegates of USU and CORE held seminars on Open Education and its Management System respectively in Beijing Jiaotong University and Dalian University of Technology. |
