 The second IET-Founder University President Award was held in Beijing Normal University on March 31, 2006. It is the only award for president in universities and colleges.
There were 12 presidents have been nominated, 4 of which got the IET-Founder University President Award, 8 of which got the nominees for the University President Award.
Prof. Pengda Zhao, president of Beijing University of Geosciences, Prof. Binglin Zhong, president of Beijing Normal University, Prof. Shengwu Xie, president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Prof. Baocheng Ji, president of Renmin University of China were awarded the IET-Founder University Presidential Award.
Prof. Yunxiu Yu, chairman of the university council of Central Radio and TV University, Prof. Qiyuan Chen, vice-president of Central South University, Prof. Ganwu Xu, president of China University of Geosciences, Prof. Yong Sun, president of Northwest University, Prof. Yiwei Zhang, president of University Petroleum, Prof. Chengxuan Luo, chairman of the university council of China University of Mining and Technology, Prof. Yicheng Hao, president of Northeast University, and Prof. Peien Feng, previous president of Zhejiang University got the nominees for the University President Award.
Mr. Zhou Tienong, Vice-Chairman of CPPCC, Mr. Zhu Shanlu, member of the Education Sub-Committee of Education Committee, CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, General Shao Hua, President of China Women Photographers¡¯ Association and Member of the board of CORE, Prof. Wang Fun-Dan, Director of IET Educational Foundation and Mr. Wei Xin, Chairman of Founder Group attended at the ceremony.
 This University President Award was sponsored by IET Educational Foundation and Founder Group. Prof. Wang Fun-Dan, Director of IET Educational Foundation introduced that this award was held among the 26 Member Universities of CORE in every two years. Prof. Min Weifang, Chairman of the University Council at Peking University, Prof. Shen Shituan, Previous President of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Prof. Cheng Gongdong, Previous President of Dalian University of Technology had awarded the first University President Award in 2004.
Later, Mr. Zhou Tienong, Vice-Chairman of CPPCC gave a speech on the ceremony.
The winner Prof. Baocheng Ji, president of Renmin University of China addressed on the ceremony. He said this award was the encouragement as well as affirmation of their job. He mentioned the only prize for the university presidents in China was the great support of IET and Founder for China higher education.
Speaking of the relationship between enterprises and education, Mr. Wei Xin, chairman of Founder Group said the development of education needed more involvements and supports from society and enterprises. The output of intelligence in enterprises is from universities, colleges and the whole society. Enterprises should pay attention to or give support to education so as to enlarge the enterprises¡¯ intelligence preservation and form a good benign circle between enterprises and society.
He said that he sponsored this University President Award out of the social responsibility of Founder. This year is the 20th anniversary of Founder. Adhering to its developing principle ¡°from education, rewarding education¡±, Founder is willing to reward society through charitable activities, and put more effort on the unification of enterprises and society, as long as Founder Group is moving forward healthily and sustainably. He hopes that more attentions and support from society on education would be attracted through this ceremony. In the course of its development, Founder had kept intimate relationship with the Chinese education and made its maximum efforts to support all kinds of education. Founder and its affiliated companies also provided advanced high-tech product to the education career.
 IET Foundation was established in 1993 by Chinese-Americans Dr. Fun-Dan Wang and his wife Dr. Agnes Chia Wang. Its endorsement comes from International Engineering Technology, Inc. (IET, Inc.). IET Educational Foundation was established in 1994 in Beijing. Apart from the University President Award, IET has set up several awards for excellent students, distinguished professors and researchers in universities and college. Since its establishment, IET has supported over 3,000 young teachers and excellent students from 26 member universities in China.
As a patriotic oversea Chinese, Prof. Wang Fun-Dan is enthusiasm and altruistic for Chinese education. He has endowed a great amount of money to Chinese education and many other educational activities. To see more enterprises and individual to join in the endorsement and to attract more attention from society to education are his biggest wishes.
In addition, IET gave great support to China Open Resources for Education (CORE). In September 2003, IET held the MIT Open Courseware International Forum in Beijing. Later in October the same year, IET established China Open Resources for Education (CORE). Through the international cooperation with IET, CORE utilizes Open Courseware from MIT and other universities to enhance the quality of education in China and to share Chinese quality courseware worldwide |
