 The Third Open Education Conference was held in XiĄŻan Jiaotong University on September 6, 2006. It is an academic meeting in the field of global Open Education.
This conference was organized by China Open Resources for Education (CORE), and held by its Lead University-XiĄŻan Jiaotong University. As an organizer, CORE hopes to advance Open Education in China and enhance the quality of Chinese education through absorbing the top-ranked educational resources from foreign universities, and to share China Quality Open Courseware and Chinese culture globally.
 The conference was started in the academic conference hall of Main Building of XiĄŻan Jiaotong University at 8:30 September 6, 2006. Prof. Zhu Shihua, Co-president of XiĄŻan Jiaotong University chaired the conference in the morning. Dr. Zheng Nanning, President of XiĄŻan Jioatong University and Dr. Fun-Dan Wang, Chairmen of CORE delivered the opening speeches. Mr.Zhang Xinsheng, Co-chairman of Ministry of Education sent his congratulations letter to the conference. Prof. Anne H Margulies, the Program Executive Director of MIT Open  Courseware, Prof. Yan Bing, Co-president of China Central Radio and TV University, Prof. Chen Qiyuan, Co-president of Central South University, Prof. Zhang Hankai, Co-president of China University of Geosciences (Beijing), and Prof. Zhao Pengda, Previous President of President of China University of Geosciences participated in the conference.
Pointed at the development, application, collaboration, and sustainability of global educational resources sharing, participants delivered 23 topic addresses on the problems and challenges of open education, which imposed their recognition and understanding of open education.
Later, a grand awarding banquet was held in the Dinning Hall of XiĄŻan Nanyang International Hotel at 6:00, in the evening of September 6, 2006. All guests appeared in the ceremony. 10 of them were awarded the Ą°Open Educational Accomplishment AwardĄ±. In line with the award of Ą°IET President AwardĄ±, this award is designed to honor the excellent pioneers for open sharing of educational resources and to encourage more educators to actively participate in this undertaking and to advance the open Chinese education.
 This conference lasted two days. Participants from home and abroad actively communicated and discussed topics on open education. And it was concluded in the afternoon of September 7, 2006. At the end of the conference, Dr. Fun-Dan Wang announced the Fourth Open Education Conference would hold in Dalian University of Technology, and hoped everyone would join in it and contribute more efforts to open education.
