CORE delegates attended the 2007 OCWC Conference in Santander , Spain on May 2-3, 2007.
On May 1, CORE delegation was invited to meet with the Vietnam MOET (Ministry of Education and Training) delegation. With the rapid development of OCW movement throughout the world, MOET of Vietnam is planning to initiate open education programs in their nation. They were glad to share with CORE's experience in developing open education in China , which is also an Asian country, and they were interested in cooperating with CORE in the future.
It was estimated that over 100 delegates from around the globe participated in the conference. In some sense, influence of OCW movement has spread all over the world. The conference was divided into 2 tracks: the strategic and the technical. The former focused on the OCW courses and organization, recruiting new members, the current situation and outlook, especially the sustainable development of OCW; and the latter focused on the content and internet development technical standard and so forth. The speeches and the discussions were active, inspiring and fruitful. A special session was organized at the conference to discuss on the future coordination and governance of OCWC. A working group was proposed to set up, so as to better carry out the mission of OCWC and benefit the international community.
In his speech at the conference, Dr. Wang Fun-Den, Chairman of CORE, shared with the other delegates CORE's 3 rd Anniversary event earlier in April, as well as CORE's effort in promoting open education development in China during the past 3 years. He also made announcement on the event of OCWC 2008 Conference and CORE's OER Conference, which will be held jointly in Dalian, China in April next year. Most participants expressed strong interest in coming to China in the year of Olympics and witness the development of open education of this oriental historical nation. |
