The First Meet of CORE and SCC

On June 28th, CORE staff met 5 representatives from Supercourse China (SCC), the mirror site of Supercourse (a lectures repository based on Epidemiology, the Internet and Global Health) operated by student volunteers from Peking Union Medical College (Medical Center of Tsinghua University). Taking the same target of advocating open sharing of educational resources, CORE and SCC decided to create links to each other and expressed willingness for further cooperation.

Supercourse, which was initiated and hosted by Prof. Ronald E. LaPorte from University of Pittsburgh, is a global repository of lectures on public health and prevention targeting educators across the world using an open source model base on Internet. It has a network of over 42£¬500 scientists, including 6 Nobel Prize Winners and NIH Directors in 174 countries who are sharing for free a library of over 3£¬232 lectures in 26 languages. Introduced to China by Prof. Jianshi Huang from Peking Union Medical College in 2003, Supercourse established its mirror site SCC in 2004.

SCC has established branches in Peking University Science Health Center, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Capital Medicine University£¬recruited volunteers participating in translation and communication activities£¬and established cooperation relationship with Western China Medical School in Sichuan. It insists on organizing professional medical lectures and trainings in Peking Union Medical College. At present, SCC website is being maintained and operated by a group of students majoring in Clinical Medicine in Peking Union Medical College at their spare time. Until now, the website has published 3,000 lecture notes, 420 Chinese versions of the 3,000 lecture notes, and tens of lecture notes of Chinese experts on public health.
