The Localization and Use of OER/OCW——Open Education Conference 2007 2007-09-28 On Sep 26-28, Open Education Conference 2007 was held in Utah, US. Before the conference, OCWC Meeting was held on 24 and 25th. At the meeting, CORE Chairman Dr. Fun-Den Wang delivered a presentation focused on “OCW Practice in China”. Open Education Conference 2007 was held on 26, 27 and 28th. The theme of Open Education Conference 2007 is OER/OCW localization and learning. At former Open Education conferences, experts have discussed the production of OER/OCW and the license problems. At present, there are thousands of full university courses and tens of thousands of learning modules available as open educational resources under open licenses like those offered by Creative Commons. So, Open Education is simply nearing a checkpoint: the localization and use of OER/OCW in learning. At this conference, attendees discussed topics on how this content is used by learners and teachers, how they change, adapt, and localize it for their specific needs or the needs of their specific students, do open educational resources support learning in ways different from non-open resources, and in what concrete ways open educational resources supports learning.   close
