UNESCO Chair Serial International Training Workshops 2007

On October 19-21, 2007, UNESCO Chair Serial of International Training Workshops was held in Shanghai TV University. Co-organized by UNESCO Education Bureau in East Asia, UNESCO Beijing (East Asia) Branch, and Shanghai TV University (UNESCO Chairs for Distance Education in East Asia), the training workshops focused on the construction and application of Open Education Resources.

As a new concept and trend in modern distance education, Open Educational Resources (OER) is the need of lifelong education. This training workshops invited experts from Europe, US, Korea and China to introduce typical cases in OER construction and application. The topics of the workshops ranged from OER Movement at home and abroad, Construction and Sharing of Chinese Quality OCW and Lifelong Education, etc. Through case studies and interactive discussion during the workshops, participants shared the concept and experiences of OER construction and application. They also discussed the challenges and opportunities of OER. All these will definitely advance the involvement of teachers, managers, and decision-makers in the field of distance education to get involved in the sharing and application of OER. Participants visited the Shanghai Educational Resources Repository and Education Satellite Control Center to learn the Repository construction in Shanghai TV University. Through the visit, participants also learned the advocation of Shanghai in constructing lifelong education and learning society.

As invited, CORE Chairman Dr. Fun-Den Wang delivered a presentation focused on ˇ°OER Movementˇ±. The presentation introduced the background of Open Education, OCW in China and other nations, and discussed challenges and opportunities of OER Movement.
