1. OCW Translation
In 2007 CORE has continued to organize professors from its Member Universities to get involved in OCW Translation and has to date published 330 OCW on its website, including 318 MIT OCW, 6 Tufts OCW, 3 USU OCW, 2 Johns Hopkins OCW and 1 Sofia OCW.
2. Use of OCW in teaching
There are 245 MIT OCW being used in teaching and study with 200 professors and 8,000 students involved, and the comparative studies of 148 MIT OCW have been completed and used. Over 1,000 MIT OCW and 330 Chinese version of OCW have been used by CORE Member Universities, non-member universities and incorporated in the teaching repository of CRTVU for use in their 2,500 training centers.
3. CQOCW in English
CORE has organized 1,100 CQOCW and linked them to its website in 2006; CORE is also organizing 660 CQOCW which will be linked to the CORE website soon. In addition to the 12 CQOCW that were translated into English in 2006, 25 CQOCW were selected in 2007 from CORE Member Universities to be translated, edited and written. By the end of 2007 the English version of 3 CQOCW will be published and the remaining will be finished and published soon.
4. CORE Website
The CORE website has grown to an annual visit rate of over 10 million which include 7 mirror sites at Member Universities established in different locations in China with CORE¡¯s assistance. The website hosts 2,000 OCW in English from 7 universities outside China and 330 Chinese versions. The new version of the CORE website will be launched in early 2008 with significantly increased access to open education resources and the tracking of course participation for training programs.
5. Developing OER Software
In collaboration with Peking University, CORE finished the localization of the Chinese versions of Sakai, eduCommons and Moodle which are being used by CORE and Member Universities. The collaboration also completed a comparative study on the potential integration of the various open education software. CORE is also cooperating with CRTVU to develop a new more versatile OCW publishing system for use in Chinese universities.
6. IET/CORE Open Education Scholarship
Among the six recipients of Open Education Scholarship in the first group, five have already completed their research reports. The remaining one is continuing the research and will finish the report soon. CORE is now processing the group of applications for OER study and research.
7. 3rd Anniversary Ceremony
In April, CORE celebrated its 3rd anniversary, which attracted over 200 participators including professors and students from MIT, CORE Member Universities, supporters and friends. At the celebration, CORE publicized its accomplishments, outlined future programs and presented pioneer awards to CORE Member Universities, professors and students who made outstanding contributions to open education.
8. Attendance of International Conferences
In 2007, CORE participated in conferences including: Hewlett Grantees Meeting in March in US; OCWC Conferences in May and September in Spain and US; China International Distance Education Conference 2007 in September in China; Open Education Conference 2007 in September in US; UNESCO Chair Serial International Training Workshops 2007 in October in China; and MIT OCW Milestone Celebration in November in US. At many of the conferences Dr. Fun-Den Wang, CORE Chairman, made remarks and delivered presentations which were well received.
9. Organization of International Conferences
Currently, CORE is organizing Open Education Conference 2008 and OCWC Conference in Dalian, China in collaboration with OCWC and Dalian University of Technology. The special focus of the conference will be on the development, application, collaboration, and sustainability of OER. The OCWC conference will be held on April 24th and the Open Education Conference 2008 will be held on April 25 & 26.
10. Organization of Seminars
In April 2008 CORE is organizing three seminars in Beijing, Shanghai, Xinjiang, and Xi¡¯an: 1) ¡°Public Health, OCW and Open Education Repository¡± in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, Tufts University, University of Washington and Peking Union Medical College, 2) ¡°MITE Open Education Program¡± in collaboration with CRTVU, Shanghai TV University and Monterey Institution for Technology and Education (MITE), 3) ¡°MIT OCW¡± in collaboration with CORE universities in Beijing, Xian University and Shihezi University.
11. International Cooperation
In 2007 CORE continued to cooperate with its international partners including WCET, OECD, MIT, Utah State University, Johns Hopkins University, Tufts University, University of Michigan and University of Washington. CORE with IET Foundation support has also developed cooperative relationships with Monterey Institution for Technology and Education (MITE), Open Learning Exchange (OLE) and Stanford University on cooperating in developing the Rural Education Action Project (REAP). |
