Right now, once people mention open course wares, they will immediately connect them with MIT OCW. In fact, the quality courses started up by the China Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2003 share the same concept as MIT OCW, that is, people can obtain free access to the excellent teaching materials online provided by universities, so it is the Chinese equivalent of OCW.
Quality courses refer to the model courses which are characterized by the first-class teaching contents, teaching methods, textbooks and teaching management. The quality courses are divided into three levels. Nation-level quality courses, province-level quality courses and university-level quality courses.
National level quality courses are one of the most important components of 2003 -2007 Action Plan of Developing Education designated by MOE. MOE also plans to build 1500 national level quality courses within 5 years and launches all the related materials of the quality courses on the Internet by utilizing modern educational technology in order to share the quality teaching resources and improve the teaching quality among universities and training quality of human resources. 151 courses have been selected as national level quality courses in 2003 and 300 courses in 2004.
Twenty-six of CORE Member Universities also take part in the construction of quality courses at all three levels, especially some courses of several universities have been selected as the nation-level quality course. You can get to their quality-course sites through the following links. |
